Janet Southcott, Founder
I have been writing since I learned how to join letters together. Since 1994, when I enrolled in an English writing school, I have had the intent of making writing my career.
In 1997 I took a Copy Editing and Proofreading course through Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. I recall feeling very comfortable tracking the source of flow or stylistic challenges and donning the detective hat to search out missing words, misspellings, typos, incorrect or missing citations and errors in formatting.
In the early 2000s I spent more time at Simon Fraser University learning about substantive editing, and about magazine production. I took a fiction-writing workshop at the University of British Columbia and followed that with freelance article writing.
In 2003/4 I took various photography courses through Langara College of Further Education, Vancouver, British Columbia. In many instances I use my own photographs to accompany an article.
Most of my career I have used my non-creative writing and editing abilities within administrative jobs in health care, owning my own baby massage company, and real estate sales. Most recently, I was managing editor at the Powell River Peak newspaper, a small weekly paper with a subscription circulation of roughly 3,000. As well as using copy editing and proofreading skills, I managed the editorial department and often wrote feature stories on a diverse array of subjects.
My most recent venture has been to understand and write in “plain language”. The use of simple words makes reading more accessible to a wider audience.
Viridian Earth Contracts Ltd. is an opportunity to collaborate with wonderful writers and editors as a team of subcontractors. Whether a client works directly with me or one of my colleagues, quality control is the number one reason to choose us to work with you.

Janet May, Partner
I tell stories; from fireside tales to advertorials. I delight in crafting words, sounds, and images to inform and entertain.
I listen. I am a journalist and a broadcaster. I am also an outdoor educator and regularly troop outdoors with school children to tell forest stories and listen to trees breathe.
I like to hike, kayak, garden, sing, read, knit, and learn new things. I and my husband have been raised by three offspring who have recently flown.
